The Linux passwords for the student accounts are managed by an LDAP server.

Remember: If you change your userPassword, make sure to change sambaLMPassword and sambaLMPassword at the same time if you have enabled the sambaSamAccount objectClass.

Linux Password Enable/Change

To change your password, do the following;

  1. Click on: https://amber.ee.sun.ac.za/phpldapadmin
  2. Click on Login... underneath E&E Users in the left pane.
  3. Enter your User name and Password in the right pane.
  4. Click on link following the text Logged in as: uid ...
  5. In the right panel, scroll down to the bottom of the page to the userPassword field.
  6. Delete the stars and enter your new password.
  7. Click on Save Changes and then Commit.

Microsoft Password Enable/Change

I am working on integrating Microsoft Windows password and account management using SAMBA synchronised with the LDAP server. To be able to login to the web server using Microsoft SMB networking do the following:

  1. Click on: https://amber.ee.sun.ac.za/phpldapadmin
  2. Click on Login... underneath E&E Users in the left pane.
  3. Enter your User name and Password in the right pane.
  4. Click on link following the text Logged in as: uid ...
  5. In the right panel, scroll down to the objectClass field and click add value
  6. Type in sambaSamAccount as the new objectClass to add.
  7. Scroll to the top of the page and use add new attribute to add the following attributes and their values
sambaSID , value = S-1-5-21-3868578188-3359596719-1575176629
sambaLMPassword , value = (same as Linux password)
sambaNTPassword , value = (same as Linux password)
sambaAcctFlags , value = [U         ]
  • Then browse to \\eepdc\homes with Microsoft Windows and login.
  • Below are the network details for connecting;
IP address = 146.232.220.17
Host name = web.ee.sun.ac.za
NetBIOS name = eepdc
Workgroup = eedept
